Quepos - Puntarenas - Costa Rica

Manuel Antonio

Punta Catedral was formed by the accumulation of sand between mainland and the peninsula creating an isthmus witch end up in a rocky peninsula, with dense forest in the middle, and some up and down trails where there are some spots with wonderful views of the Pacific Ocean and various rocky islets.

Punta Catedral is inside the Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica's smallest national park, just over 683 hectares, but it is also one of the most amazing, famous and visited ones. Here you will find a small forested area heavily populated by White Faced and Howler monkeys and raccoons, and three exceptionally beautiful beaches. Also it is one of the few remaining areas in which the squirrel monkey is found. Trails pass through secondary and primary forest, dominated by bastard cedar, balsa and mangrove swamps. The beaches are covered with coconut palms, a truly unique tropical paradise.

Once an island, Punta Catedral eventually got connected to mainland over time and from few meters away it is easy to see where this name comes from.

There are few trails inside the park that allow you enjoy the place Punta Catedral is one of the best because it goes from Playa Manuel Antonio to Playa Espadilla Sur..the  views are great along the trail.
La Catarata, El Perezoso, and the Universal Trail are the other trails..all well documented and most of the year easy to walk.

The Park is close on Monday, the entrance is cheap but you need to plan in advance, your hotel or a local guide should be able to help you.
